Step-by-Step Fixes:

Restart your Fitbit
Restarting the device can clear minor issues. Please check the instructions for your specific model. -
Open the Fitbit app on your phone
Go to the Today tab and pull down the screen until you see the progress bar or circle. This forces the sync. -
Check Bluetooth and internet connection
On your phone: turn Bluetooth off, wait a second, then turn Bluetooth back on. Make sure your phone is connected to Wi-Fi or has mobile data. Keep your Fitbit and phone close together (within a few feet) -
Restart your phone
A phone restart clears many hidden issues. After the phone turns back on, open the Fitbit app and try syncing again. -
Update everything
Go to the App Store (for iPhone) or Google Play (for Android), and make sure the Fitbit app is up to date. Make sure your phone’s operating system is up to date. -
Check app permissions
iPhone: Go to Settings → Fitbit and ensure Bluetooth, Background App Refresh and Cellular Data are allowed. Android: Go to Settings → Apps → Fitbit → Permissions and make sure Location, Nearby Devices (for newer Android) and Bluetooth are allowed.
